First Grand Slam, major of the year. Men/Women's Combined Event held in Melbourne, Australia. Marat reached 3rd Round but eventually lost to Roger Federer which was something not to be ashamed of. :) This is the only better result in his Grand Slam appearances in 2009 as the rest were first-round exits (Roland Garros to Josselin Ouanna, Wimbledon to Jesse Levine and US Open to Jurgen Melzer.) Marat is the 2005 Australian Open Champion and was the runner-up for 2 years, 2002 and 2004.
